Frequently Asked Questions
Where does Manuel Tours operate?
Manuel Tours operates exclusively in Madeira, Portugal. I specialise in private tours around this beautiful Atlantic island and do not operate in any other locations. I will be more than happy to be your guide in Madeira, showing you the best sights and some hidden gems.
What types of tours do you offer in Madeira?
I offer a wide selection of private tours with suggested itineraries. Full day tours (7 hours) include West Tours (including Porto Moniz, Seixal, and the laurel forest at Fanal), East Tours (including Ponta de São Lourenço and Santana), South & North Tours, Central Tours (including Pico do Arieiro) and others. Half day tours (4 hours) are available if you have limited time and wish to see certain popular viewpoints and areas. I also offer Mega Tours (up to 9 hours) are ideal for seeing the best of the entire island in one day. All tours can be slightly customised for your preferences or adjusted for weather, if necessary.
Do you provide airport transfers in Madeira?
Yes, I can provide transfers from Madeira Airport (Funchal Airport - FNC) to your accommodation and back. I can also collect you from the cruise ship terminal in Funchal and return you promptly at the end of the tour. Early or late pick-ups are possible with advance notice. Transfers cannot currently be booked directly on the website, but please contact me by text, email or WhatsApp to arrange.
What are your operating hours?
Touring hours are usually between 9.00 and 19.00, depending on the tour. I can be flexible with start times. If booking online, the default start time is 09.30 but you can request earlier or later, either in the booking comments section or by contacting me directly. Half Day tours start from either 9.30 or 14.00 depending upon availability. Sunrise tours at Pico do Arieiro start early and times will vary, depending on the season, so must be booked with me directly, not via the website.
How many passengers can you accommodate?
I have two air-conditioned vehicles for luxury tours: a Mercedes Vito Tourer (up to 8 passengers) and a Mercedes E-Class Limousine (up to 3 passengers).
What is included in a Madeira private tour?
Your private tour will be with me, Manuel, as your friendly local guide. I'll pick you up from your hotel, residence, or cruise ship in a luxury Mercedes vehicle. You can relax and enjoy Madeira's stunning views without the pressure of driving yourself. Stops for refreshments or lunch can be included whenever needed, and I'll recommend good places to eat depending on your preferences. You'll never have to worry about where to park! At the end of the tour, I'll drop you back where we started.
Can I book a private tour of Madeira with a bespoke duration?
Yes, I understand that sometimes it's not quite possible to see everything you'd wish to on a Half Day Tour, yet you don't have time for a Full Day Tour. It's possible to add extra hours to a Half Day Tour booking (up to a maximum of 2 additional hours, subject to availability). When booking, you'll see the option to add hours underneath the selection of number of passengers. If the hours are available then you'll be taken to check out and you can confirm your booking. Extra hours are only available to pre-book online in advance, if you want them on the day of the tour, you just have to ask me and I can tell you if I can add them!
Can I be collected from an area outside Funchal?
Yes, this is possible. Depending on your pick-up location, a slight surcharge may apply to cover additional travel time. Please contact me before booking to get a quote.
Can I book a private tour of Madeira online?
Yes, you can book tours directly through the online booking page on the website. After checkout you'll receive immediate confirmation by email. You can also contact me by email at contact@manueltours.com or call or WhatsApp +351 917 883 144.
What makes Manuel Tours different from a coach tour of Madeira?
Unlike coach tours, I offer completely private experiences with a relaxed schedule at your own pace. You can stay longer at any viewpoint without being rushed, or move on if you've seen enough. It's a much more personal experience, making it feel like you're travelling with a friend.
What is the best tour to see the most of Madeira?
The Mega Tour (up to 9 hours) is ideal for seeing the best parts of Madeira in one day. If you have more time, I recommend combining different tours over two days, such as a West Tour and an East Tour, to experience the island's diverse landscapes at a gentler pace.
Do you offer gift cards?
Yes, I offer eGift Cards that can be purchased for friends or family. They can be personalised with your own message, and will be emailed to the recipient on a date of your choice. The eGift cards are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
What should I bring on a tour?
I recommend comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing (layers are good as temperatures can vary) and water. For levada walks, sturdy walking boots or shoes with a good grip are essential.
For any further questions you may have, please don't hesitate to contact me directly. Thank you!
