Higher numbers of visitors to Madeira means that the most popular PR levada routes now have to be booked online for a small fee in advance and with a limited number of time slots. The new booking rules have added an extra layer of planning for the most popular walks - but it doesn’t mean your levada experience has to become complicated. There are still many stunning routes outside the PR network: peaceful, mostly flat walks that are ideal for first-time visitors or anyone who wants beauty without the challenge. These are the kinds of walking routes I often suggest to clients for an authentic, less crowded and slightly more spontaneous experience.

If you’d like help choosing the right levada walk - without the stress of bookings, driving, or guesswork - I’m always happy to advise and suggest options that suit your energy levels and interests. It's one of the easiest ways to enjoy Madeira's levadas. I’ll choose the best walk for your ability, drop you off at the start and meet you at the end - all you have to do is enjoy walking the levada.

Yes, there are beautiful waterfalls on some of the quieter routes in Madeira!

If you'd prefer to walk with a guide, here's an option: you start the walk on your own, I drive to the other end and walk back to meet you. You get the peace of an independent walk for a while, with the reassurance that I’ll join you halfway to point out interesting sights and answer any questions you may have. If you'd rather have me as a guide for the whole way, of course that's a possibility too - we just have to walk back at some point! There’s always a way to make your levada walk in Madeira a truly memorable experience.

A short walk can be incorporated into a Full Day Tour, just let me know that's what you'd like to do, bring good walking shoes and I can choose the right place along our route. If you want a longer time to walk, book a Half Day or even a Full Day and and I'll help you find a peaceful spot away from the crowds. Let's go! 😊
